One of Mrs. Sailer's 6th grade students, Chris Visconsi, is related to Tom Bancroft.  Chris arranged it so that his art class and one other of Mrs. Beatman's 6th grade classes face-timed with his uncle.  Tom Bancroft has over 20 years of experience in the animation industry, most of those years working with Walt Disney feature presentations.  He led the student's in drawing Simba, which he was involved in drawing at Disney and also answered lots of questions about his life and work.  He has published several how-to books on creating characters, and has illustrated over 50 children's books. For more information, go to https://about.me/tombancroft.  Thanks to Chris and Mr. Bancroft for sharing with us.

SAXE ART COURTYARD

This year, Ms. Beatman's 8th grade class was challenged with designing a few installation pieces for the art courtyard. After a few weeks of planning, they came up with two mural designs as well as yarn-weavings for unsightly the chain-link fence. Everyone was involved with different aspects of the works, so it was truly a group effort. Check out the videos that captured them in action:

Annual Sock Drive

The art department would like to thank all Saxe staff and students who participated in the annual sock drive. This record breaking year enabled us to send more than 400 packaged holiday gifts to 3 different homeless shelter. All recipients were very grateful for the warmth and thoughtfulness that was sent their way.
